Population: Youth ages 11-17 who have experienced complex trauma. We use techniques that are geared toward adolescents with psychiatric diagnosis and present with a variety of social, emotional, and behavioral issues such as disruptive behaviors, attachment and trauma related disorders, mood/anxiety disorders, psychotic symptoms, high functioning pervasive developmental disorders, and abuse reactive behaviors including sexual reactivity.
We utilize attachment theory and implement Dialectical Behavioral Therapy and Cognitive Behavioral Treatment components. Our focus in treatment is to build self-esteem, develop effective coping mechanisms, establish personal boundaries, accept personal responsibility, understand personal abuse patterns, and build problem solving skills.
With a heavy emphasis on building healthy relationships, the TIC model focuses on the individualized needs of the resident, while cultivating growth and personal development. The treatment staff are elected to foster these healthy relations by exercising compassion, understanding of their history and providing consistent structure which builds a safe environment. By recognizing that our residents have experienced complex trauma in their lives, staff are inclined to be sensitive to the resident’s situations and support them through their treatment
Along with our amazing campus, and exceptional treatment programs, our personnel exemplify the highest standards of residential care. Supported by a team of highly qualified professional facilitators, each new personnel undergoes a rigorous and thorough training curriculum. From the first day of orientation, new staff are introduced to the veteran professionals, while they operate in their working capacities. After becoming familiar with the program layout and specificities, the new staff are educated and mentored for three months, while they are guided into the station of residential care.
The Northwest Children’s Home utilizes the most current evidence based knowledge in order to effectively deliver therapeutic interventions to adolescents in need of residential care. Our complex organizational framework utilizes multidimensional strategies that allow for effective oversight in a constantly evolving environment. The foundation of this agency resides in the extraordinary structure utilized in providing trauma informed care.
NCH operates 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days per year. In addition to this, our on-campus school operates the traditional school year as well as offering summer session courses. Our mission is to provide exceptional rehabilitative, therapeutic and educational services for children and families.
A goal of treatment at NCH is to create lasting change in adolescent experience of themselves, healthy relationships, and the world around them. Our treatment team is comprised of caring, compassionate professionals who recognize our clients’ behaviors as products of severe trauma.
NCH is currently enhancing services with more clinical orientation, structured programming in the separate houses, and transformation of attitudes through a Trauma Informed approach. Staff and administration are being educated on how to evaluate the youth in a more comprehensive way, allowing for more thorough and individualized interventions.
The Hopper, Vision, and Quest programs provides individualized therapeutic residential care for Youth with a need for a higher level of support and care.
The shift toward Trauma Informed Care has helped educate our staff on the importance of understanding client maladaptive behavior as adaptations, or ways of survival. The therapeutic milieu uses relational strategies and positive behavior reinforcement to support the development of healthy and effective modes of communication and coping skills.
Hopper Program:
Located on the West side of the NCH campus, the Hopper Program provides residents with a highly structured building layout that allows for an increased coordinated supervision ability. Additionally, the Hopper Program affords residents with an in-house classroom and treatment milieu. The building sits on a beautifully landscaped half acre that overlooks the Snake River and Lewis-Clark Valley.
Vision Program:
Located on the right as you enter our campus, the Vision Program provides residents with a highly structured building layout that allows for an increased coordinated supervision ability. Additionally, the Vision Program affords residents with an in-house classroom located on the lower level of the building, three treatment milieus, and a kitchen.
Quest Program:
Located on the left as you enter our campus, the Quest Program provides residents with a more open concept layout. Additionally, the Quest Program affords residents with an in-house classroom located on the lower level of the building, a in-house game room, two treatment milieus, as well as a basketball court located behind the house.
